The Speed Zone Master Plan is the culmination of over a year's worth of planning, with significant input from Speedway residents, business owners and other stakeholders. The Town of Speedway was founded at the turn of the 20th century by individuals following their vision, and with this plan, the Town of Speedway, its citizens and its industries have put forth a bold vision for the next 100 years. The Speed Zone Master Plan is a challenging yet pragmatic strategy for the redevelopment of the 400 acres south of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, including Main Street. The plan calls for mixed-use development, an emphasis on the retention of Speedway’s largest employers, and establishing this area as the true heart of the racing industry. Highlights of the plan include:

• Establishing a strong retail/commercial corridor along Main Street, with condominium development on the upper floors of Main Street's buildings.
• Improving access for businesses and industry with improved traffic.
• Improving pedestrian safety and accessibility while also opening the area for alternative transportation opportunities.
• Creating a year-around destination for race fans and motorsports enthusiasts.
• Encouraging environmentally sustainable development that benefits businesses as well as the community as a whole.
• Enhancing citizens' quality of life through top-notch development, improved public amenities and new opportunities for arts and culture.
